DC/DC Step-down Regulator

Semtech Corp. announces the SC194B, a highly integrated 1A DC/DC step-down (buck) regulator with the small size and output flexibility needed for portable device applications. The SC194B has an input voltage range from 2.7 to 5.5 V with a focus on portable applications that use Li-ion batteries. It is a sister part to the recently announced SC194A, which is feature compatible but offers outputs between 1 V and 1.8 V. The SC194B uses two programming pins to allow engineers to set the output voltage to 2.5 V, 3.0 V, 3.3 V or 3.6 V. These pins can be hard-wired to set a constant voltage, or they can be tied to a microcontroller and dynamically switched for applications that use digital power control. The highly integrated feature set of the SC194B goes beyond the voltage programming pins, which eliminate the need for voltage-setting resistors on the output.
