Floating, Regulated Charge Pump

ON Semiconductor introduces the NIS6201 — a floating regulated charge pump for low power applications. Designed to supply 20 mA and 8 to 15 V, the NIS6201 is cost-effective replacement for a small, isolated, switching power supply. Suggested applications for the device include the drive voltage for ORing Diodes, floating supervisory circuits and LED drivers. Whereas most charge pumps typically have their output voltage referenced to ground, the NIS6201 output voltage can be referenced (or added to) any bus voltage. This allows it to ‘float’ a bias or supply voltage on top of any bus voltage. This device enables designers to easily generate any bias voltage with minimal external components. The NIS6201 contains an internal linear regulator and a versatile charge pump that allow bias voltage supplies to be transferred from a ground referenced source to a higher potential. Because the high voltage components are external to the pump and can be sized accordingly, the NIS6201 can handle any isolation voltage required — up to hundreds of volts. The device also features an adjustable voltage output and is thermally protected.
